August 2008

Well this has been quite a week around here and a lot has gone on since the last “Sunday muddle”. So here’s the run down:

-Wife Gail has been really sick, still is. Told her if she doesn’t get better I’m going to get the Liguid Wrench out of the shed and annoint her with oil and lay hands.

-Hurricane Gustov is getting ready to hit New Orelans. This is really sad and this storm has already killed like 81 people.

-Tropical Storm/Hurricaine Hanna “fofanna the big fat bannana” is trying to make up her mind what she wants to be when she grows up and who and where to hit. I’m tired of hurricaine season.

-Barack Obama hit it out of the park on Thursday with a slick perfect executed accepatance speech at the Mile High stadium in front of almost 80,000 deleriously delighted Obama-nation fan club members only to have John McCain hit a Grand Slam the next day and diffuse ALL the hoopla. From a campaign strategy viewpoint It was a thing of beauty, and the VP choice ain’t half bad either. “Who is this woman?” you could hear them all say. Rush Limbaugh said ”we’ve got a babe on the Republican ticket now…”. Chauvenist ;)

I won the EIB award on Phill’s blog, this is a true honor because he always picks his brothers stuff. I expect it’ll be Kelly Johnson next though no matter what I come with it’s hard to beat cute.

-Yesterday we helped Jesse move and I can now officially say I have moved a piano. His new house is really nice and he’s inviting the whole entire church over for a big BBQ in his back yard on this bodacious new grill he got.

-Oh yeah and we had church today, almost forgot. We had a blast today, just the 4 guys Jesse, Alex, ADHD, and the ol’ Billy Barue, we did an accoustic set and ended it with a Johhny Cash song “Ring of fire” which the folks really seemed to enjoy. I looked over at Jess and Alex and one point and they were having a seriously good time. There was also a young lady in the audience who drew us on her sketch pad, that was pretty cool. She’s a very talented artist, but I don’t know who she was otherwise I’d give her the kudo’s.

The message from Travis on on the subject of money called “Loaded” and it’s been rilly rilly excellent and very contrversial. But then that’s how we do it at the LPC, in ya face. Last week I approached Pastor Paul (I would post the link to his blog but it hasn’t been updated since Clinton was in office :) ) and told him I felt we must do the book “Financial Peace” Travis was talking about for the Life Group we’ll be hosting this fall. I can’t wait and want to get the book now to start preparing.

In HIS palm.

If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)

Man, what a long week…

-My wife is still very sick and very tired from no real rest, and ”real” concern is setting in. We do a lot of praying.

- I have to cut the grass. Nuff said about that.

- My daughter is headed up to Pork St. Lucie for the weekend with Grandma and Pop Pop, and to play with her cousins Joshery, Jeffery, and Marlin Brando. That be excellent time for her, we’re appreciative.

- Jesse has invited me over for a party tomorrow, but I suspect it’s to help him move his piano. He better have some good party snax.

- My friend Terry Brown is in town for a few days and looking forward to hanging with him, he’s a very inspirational friend for me.

- Had practice for Sunday last night and we’re on skeleton crew with Jesse, Alex, Epic (aka. ADHD) and ol’ Billy Barue for an accoustic set. It should be really good, we’re going to do a “hot” song by “the Man in Black”, you don’t want to miss it.

- Watched “Obama-nation” rock concert last night. Here’s some advice; stock up on the Ibuprofen ‘cuz we’re in for horrendous hangover after this Rave is over.

Where did this fat blob of goobers come from! I’m already exhausted and we still have 3 months to go of this mess…

When my wife was in the hospital the mind tends to go places it normally doesn’t and I had some thoughts about a lot of things (and still am). Told her we both need to be well because it would be really difficult to accomplish the many goals we’ve set if either of us is sick. Not to mention we have a young daughter who has plenty of energy. I get really impatient with myself a lot of time and that translates itself to being short with others. I try to remember that success is a journey, achievements are the goals. Folks always say “pray for patience”, but wonder how would God answer if we “prayed for impatience”, would we accomplish our goals sooner or be even more miserable?

I remember seeing an interview with Eric Clapton and he said (paraphrasing) that he “never set out to make hit song, but produce a body of work”. Hmmm… pretty wise.

I don’t know who William E. Holler is but as much as I hate to admit it, he’s right…

“You can do what you want to do, accomplish what you want to accomplish, attain any reasonable objective you may have in mind — not all of a sudden, perhaps not in one swift and sweeping act of achievement — but you can do it gradually, day by day and play by play, if you want to do it, if you work to do it, over a sufficiently long period of time.”                      ~ William E. Holler

We were very elated to have Gail come home today, we needed clothes and dishes washed.

Oh stop it I’m just kidding… settle down.

Like I said before we have more questions than answers still, but the prayers, visits, comments, and calls from everybody were awsome and we appreciate it! More to come on this saga.

Today was another long day at the hospital. My wife had a bronchoscopy where they did a lung biopsy and some other stuff. I find myself with as many questions as I had on Saturday, maybe more. We are hopeful she can come home tomorrow and will have a lot of Dr’s visits coming up. I’m not sure we even have a diagnosis(es) yet only symptoms. Here’s some things I do know though:

-my family is great, my in-laws are awesome! Aunt Cheryl you ROCK!!

-our church family is the bomb with all the well wishers, and Anne Johnson is the “bomb-jiggity”, she made Gail’s day coming by with the beautiful flowers (Aunt Cheryl also brought some beautiful flowers). I can feel a sneeze welling up as we speak.

-the new magnificent, bodacious state of the art Homestead Hospital is top notch, we should really be proud of that achievement right here in our neighborhood. We of course have not seen the bill yet, check with me later but as of now we’re gee-whizzed by the joint.

-get ready world for the new Finch’s 2.0, this time next year we will be svelt! (physically and financially) there are some big changes and challanges coming up on the horizon that will require a lot of work.

-as I sit right here today I’m not sure I’m ready for the future (paradoxically speaking), this experience has been a real shot across the bow for us as a family.

I’m getting in late tonight with the Sunday muddle and I’m not even sure where to begin with this post other than to just put it out there.

To start my wife Gail has been sick for about 2 weeks with this just horrific cough, fever etc… Saturday she was on the couch coughing away and I gave her a choice; Mariners Hopsital in the Keys, or the luscious, extravegant, new state of the art facility Homestead Hospital (which by the way she works at/for). Long story short she’s still at Homestead Hospital and will be for several days. Also by the way it was awesome to have Gene from church come by and pray with us. Gail’s sisters Cheryl and Faith came up with a couple of my favorite brother in laws Gordon and Bill and hung out with us at the hospital.

Now some folks will have something to say I’m sure, but my daughter Nichole and I decided to go to church this morning as I knew Gail was ok and needed the rest. We got there and things went really well, we had a good rehearsal/soundcheck with Phil before hand which we rarely do but it really made a lot of difference in the way we played. We practice at the office but it’s different when you have the stage sound and lights, etc… Jesse was gone so Phil had the reigns, the whole gang really kicked it up a notch and did a great job.

The biggest applause today was for Ms. Ela, she’s a ROCKSTAR!!

I’m usually there for both services but will sit for the sermon one time then cruise out to lobby to hobnob and get some snacks during the other. Today though the sermon was so excellent I called Gail to see how she was and decided to stay and listen to it again but have Nichole with me because it was such an importatnt message. Travis (the bedheaded pastor) spoke on money today. In a lot of churches the subject has become taboo and you just get the soft sell, but that ain’t the way we roll at LPC… Travis has a policy of just putting the issues out on the table and deal with it smackdown style. The sermon series is called “Loaded” and if you missed it, or don’t go to LPC just click on the LPC link and go to the LPC website and watch the video stream. It’s that important of a message. In fact I’m not going to tell you what he said you’ll just have to go to the LPC website and hear it for yourself, trust me you will not regret it.

In case you missed it here’s the link to LPC: http://life-pointe.com/
